Browns Bay Fishing Club - fishing the Hauraki Gulf together

Browns Bay Fishing Club banner - a hooked snapper leaping from a deep blue sea beneath a bent rod and reel

Who we are

An amateur club for anyone who likes wetting a line - seasoned skippers, first-timers, kids with hand-me-down rods. We meet at the Browns Bay Bowling Club every Wednesday from 4:30pm for club night and the meat raffles, and we fish all year round. In the words of one member:

“Amazing bunch of people who are so friendly and welcoming. Ethical events with measure mostly! Awesome! They have fun!”

- Roger Tweddell, Facebook review

How our competitions work

One comp most months, and you can fish it whenever suits you. No weigh-in queues, no dead fish required.

  1. 1

Fish any time in the month

Boat or land-based, dawn raid or lazy afternoon - anywhere NZ fishing rules allow, rod and line only.

  2. 2

    Photograph it on the measure

Lay your fish on the official BBFC measure mat and take a photo from directly above. We measure in centimetres, not kilos - so the fish can go straight back if you choose.

  3. 3

    Email it in

Send your photo to the Weighmaster before the comp closes, then come along to prizegiving. Results are published early the following month.
